The guitar is a chordophone (from the string family) built from wood and strung with either nylon or steel strings. Today’s modern six-string guitar has ancestral roots with the lute, vihuela, Renaissance guitar, and Baroque guitar.
The guitar is an exceedingly popular beginning musical instrument. It comes in various sizes, welcoming young children to adults. Classical, electro-acoustic, and electric guitars are all similar in style and function, but require slightly different performance approaches.
